What would happen if someone had an overdose of sleeping pills?

Lets say like half a bottle or so ?
Would they die? If they don’t will they live and suffer due to the pills?
Would a 16yr old need ID to purchase sleeping pills especially if they look way younger?
I don’t live in America! So your numbers are of no use
