How about this Sleep Number bed idea?
I have an older Sleep Number bed from like 2003. What I’m wondering, is since I would imagine most of the lower part of the bed (the foam frame and air bags) haven’t changed that much, I wonder if it’s possible to pretend I have a new expensive model and need to replace the entire top due to a massive spill. So, get a new expensive top for the old, basic lower part of the Sleep Number setup. New top, old bottom – seems like it would basically be a new bed for a fraction of the price. Thoughts?

Sounds good to me!
I did a little research on those–my godfather had one that was over 20 years old. Everything worked, but the pillow topper needed deep cleaning and I think it had cellulose (paper) inside of it. Als0, the grey foam pad below that was beginning to distintigrate just from age.
I didn’t know how the bed went together, so I didn’t know what ‘part’ to ask for. You should just call the manufacturer with your model number and I bet they will help you. I was thinking even a regular mattress pad for a 15" mattress would work and I could buy some foam somewhere and cut it the same size as the foam pad on the bed.
I’m glad the bed was sold at the estate sale.
